The Long Beach Playhouse will be getting a pair of new leaders soon.After 13 years with the Playhouse, Andrew Vonderschmitt, the company’s executive and producing artistic director, is leaving for a new gig as program director for the Arts Council of El Dorado County, the Playhouse announced Thursday. “The Playhouse has been great to me. I love this place and the people like family, but it was time to do something different with my own growing family,” Vonderschmitt said in a statement. Vonderschmitt, who started at the nearly 90-year-old Playhouse in 2003 as stage manager before being named artistic director in 2009 and then executive and producing artistic director in 2012, will be replaced by two current Playhouse members.
Madison Mooney, the company’s business operations manager who has been with the Playhouse since 2009, will become the new executive director. And I’m pleased the board has faith in me to follow in Andrew’s footsteps. 3. The job of artistic director will go to current Technical Director Sean Gray.“I’m thrilled with this opportunity, it’s my dream job. Mooney and Gray will start their new jobs on Jan. The Playhouse is a Long Beach institution and I’m excited to be its advocate in every way,” Mooney said in a statement.
